Umatilla Residence

The Umatilla Residence is a new construction project for a couple and their family dog.  The clients had a desire to encompass the main residence and their garage/studio with a large roof that would provide ample year-round functional covered space, as well as maximize structural proficiency.  The main house includes; 2 bedrooms/2 baths and an office space in a very efficient 1400 sf.  The structure's large shed roof slopes North to South to take full advantage of views to the north into the adjacent natural area. The Shed roof provides generous defused light in the main living space, as well as optimizes solar angles for a large solar array.  The structure allows for an optimal structural efficiency while promoting the desired open floor plan concept desired by the clients.  Cabinetry and storage are efficiently nested within the public/private dividing wall that also serves as the main load bearing element of the residence.  The 2-car garage/studio provides a parking and workshop space for the client’s various sprinter van projects.  Large cut away pockets within the roof structure provide daylighting to the covered porch areas, as well as serve as low light planting areas.
